Vadi
Accounting SaaS for Latvian sole traders, micro-enterprises and small companies — invoices, payroll, taxes and VID EDS declarations in one system that tells you what is due, when and how much.
Challenge
Latvian bookkeeping punishes anyone without an accountant: VAT, payroll taxes, MUN and CIT all run on their own deadlines and formulas, and the cost of a mistake is a VID penalty. Build a product that a courier, an IT freelancer or a five-person SIA can run alone — accurate enough to be trusted with real tax filings, simple enough to need no accounting background, and fast enough to set up in minutes. On top of that, the product had to reach an audience that does not search for "accounting software" — it searches for "how much tax do I pay on 1500 euro".
Solution
- Tax calendar as the core UX — every deadline with its already-calculated amount, one click from reminder to done
- Payroll engine with a full gross-to-net breakdown: tax-free minimum, allowances, sick pay and holiday pay by average earnings
- VAT, employer report and CIT generated as VID EDS XML; MUN declaration filed straight from the system via the EDS API
- Bank statement import with automatic matching to invoices and expenses, and categorisation that learns recurring payments
- PDF invoicing with VAT marks, plus camera and PDF receipt scanning — postings and VAT calculations appear on their own
- Onboarding that pulls company details from the business register and sets up the chart of accounts — ready to work in about ten minutes
- Eight free public tax calculators on current-year rates (salary gross↔net, self-employed, MUN, regime comparison, VAT, dividends and CIT, vacation pay, sick pay), each result shown with its full breakdown
- Industry landing pages for couriers, taxi drivers, IT freelancers, beauty and wellness, e-commerce, trades and construction, tutors, consultants, retail, health and legal professionals
- Multi-user access for accountants and teams, audit log of who changed what, and invite-only permissions
- Data stored in an EU data centre with daily automatic backups
- Three subscription tiers (€9 / €17 / €35 per month incl. VAT) with a 7-day trial that needs no payment card
- Multilingual product and marketing site (LV / EN / RU) on Next.js, with a help and documentation portal
Result
A self-serve accounting platform that removes the guesswork from Latvian tax compliance: users always see what is due and when, declarations leave the system in the exact format VID expects, and onboarding takes about ten minutes instead of an accountant's onboarding call. The free calculators and industry pages turn high-intent tax searches into an organic acquisition channel that feeds the trial, while accountants get a shared workspace for the clients they manage.
